Keywords are a powerful way to annotate your inventory records so they can be retrieved subsequently by you and by others with less knowledge about the topic. For example a book about world war II set in France that includes material about the Vichey government and Churchill may also have some information about the resistance movement. All the bolded words should be included as keywords for this item. A good rule is to include as many keywords as possible when cataloguing or entering the item. The book can then be found by anyone, even complete novices by searching for any of these keywords. A customer who is interested in anything about Vichey or Churchill can then be served by any operator and the relevent items will be found. Many times the operator can then suggest others on the topic based on the search results.
Keywords for Internal use only
Keywords can be output to file along with the other information in a reord by selecting the Categories field in drop down list of fields available for output when setting up or modifying an output format (template).
Any keyword that starts with xx will not be output. This is a way to include keywords that are only for internal use. They will never be reported when output via any output format. For example a keyword xxHeldStockShed4 for inhouse tracking of stock help in a specific warehouse would be visible in searches but not on the web site or other outputs that included keywords.
