System freezes and data corruption
Reboot the computer only as a last resort. Rebooting can cause data corruption!!! Always attempt to kill the task causing the freeze before rebooting (see below).
System freezes are uncommon in WindowsXP or Vista but if they do occur are a common cause of data file corruption. If the program is writing to disk when a freeze occurs data can be corrupted. There a numerous other causes for data corruption such as disks that are almost full, hardware errors, memory faults, disk errors, etc, etc.
Note: System freezes are not always caused by the program in the foreground, i.e. the one you are using. Pressing the Alt Control and Delete keys together will most likely enable you to End the Task that is causing the freeze. If the Task monitor appears you may be in luck. Check for any program in the list of running Tasks that has status not responding. Highlight this task and press the end Task button. This will fix most freezes. Freezing can occur for numerous reasons. For example when connected to the internet your computer can be waiting for a response from the remote computer but the connection has been lost or is out of synch. Only reboot as the last resort. Rebooting can cause data corruption. If you do reboot use the maintenance to verify your data when you restart the program.
In case of data corruption which prevents you from loading Bookmine you can continue selling at the point of sale or via mail order using Disconnected Mode operation.
