Disconnected Mode operation

From time to time you may be forced to, or want to, work in disconnected mode. In this mode the central server data is not available either due to data corruption, server problems or you are working offsite at an external sales event and cannot connect to the server via a high speed network.

In this mode new sales can be processed and new stock and contact records created. You will be working with the data as it stood when the most recent verification was carried out. Disconnected mode can be maintained over several days and multiple sessions,  making sales in each session as required. The longer it is maintained the more the data is out of synchrony with the data on the server. This does not present a technical problem but the business flow implications should be examined from an overall business point of view and processes put in place to ensure that resynchronisation is carried out at required intervals.

Note: Backups should be carried out on disconnected data just like it would be on server data, especially if disconnected mode is maintained over several days.

Changes to existing stock and contact records will not be reflected back on the server data after resynchronising. This mode of operation is used to continue POS sales while server data is being repaired or is not available due to network or other problems.

There are three phases to disconnected mode.

Disconnected Cluster mode

Sometimes you may want to operate several computers in disconnected mode but want them all to use the same disconnected data set so that each sees a consolidated view of the data, such as quantities on hand, as sales are being processed across the clients. These form a disconnected cluster that share data on the disconnected Server.

In this mode a Disconnected Server (a computer that has been primed for standalone Disconnected mode operation) acts as a Data Server to one or more disconnected clients. All the clients share the data on the Disconnected server. Only the Disconnected server resynchronises with the data at HQ. This configuration requires a licence from InfoMining - please enquire.
