Bulk import using BISAC files - How to
You can do bulk importing using BISAC files, augmenting the records with the data from Bookfind online or the Bookdata CD and subsequently place orders for the items directly from the import holding queue.
--Invoke under the Suppliers Main switchboard / "Import" button.
--Select whether the records will be augmented from BFOL or CD by ticking the appropriate radio button.
--Then click BISAC import button and follow the instructions.
Bookmine will import the BISAC records into a holding queue and present them to you.
When this phase is finished the holding queue will display the records in the BISAC file to be imported, which items are matched by records in the online database or CD, which records are already matched to items in your Stock records (will have Order Now button) and several other properties.
--You can now indicate which records you want to import by tagging them. To import any record just tick the Import flag for that record. To import ALL use the Tag All button. You could also Tag All and untag any you don't want imported if you wish to import most records.
When you have tagged the records to be imported click the Import Tagged Records button. A password is required (standard delete password). There are numerous options you can select before import. Read them carefully. As the import proceeds a progress bar keeps you up to date.
After this phase is finished each record imported and those already matched to records in Bookmine will have an "Order now" button. Click this to place the item in a pending PO for the supplier. A pending PO will build up which can be actioned at any time.
This can really speed up the ordering process, especially if the rep has come in and is dealing with items from a specific BISAC file, e.g. Spring Publications or you have downloaded the BISAC file from the publishers site.
Note: The process of matching and importing records to BookFind online will take longer than from the Bookdata CD, but be patient as the hit rate is higher, the data imported is more up to date and better quality and includes jacket images for many new titles.
