EAN and UPC barcode can be scanned into any field in Bookmine. Ideally when an item is catalogued the code can be scanned directly from the product into the product code field, preventing errors from mistyping. Bookmine will only accept valid codes. Many ISBNs printed on books are not valid as their check digit does not match the 9-digit ISBN code. In this case Bookmine will attempt to convert it to a valid code and store that. There is no point storing and invalid code as it will not scan properly if a label is printed for it. Bookmine will automatically generate an inhouse EAN that can be printed and scanned, without ambiguity.

Barcode scanners can be used to search for items that have valid EANs. Product codes can also be displayed on invoices, purchase orders).
To search for an item using a barcode scanner the focus (cursor) must be in the Product Code field (which can be labelled ISBN, EAN or UPC depending on the preferences you have selected).
Bookmine will attempt to find the item. If a partial code is entered here all matches to the partial code willl be returned. If the label has an inhouse EAN printed on it the corresponding stockid will be returned.
