The Point Of Sale (POS) interface provides all the functionality required to process counter sales in a typical busy shop. (Mail order sales are better handled using the mail order interface which provides more versatility for handling tax, bill to/ship to addresses, exports, and many other options not appropriate for POS sales)

The program can be opened in POS mode from the desktop or from the transactions summary area within the main program. The POS interface and the direct marketing interface display different views of the same underlying contact and inventory records so that all information collected at the POS and via the mail order interface is available for analysis from a central location. Extensive customer and inventory lookup and maintenance is also available from the POS interface.

All the functions in the POS interface can be accessed via two main screens: The POS Summary and the POS Sales screen. The user can elect to use either the Express POS Sales interface (recommended) or the more complex Full version. See Setup POS options for details

Main functions:

• New Sale (F3) – start new sale to the Counter customer (unlinked) in a loop. (Use F8 for linked sales, deposits, etc)

• Add items (F4) to invoices. Enabled only on active sale. Use Scan/Add field to auto add items to the active invoice by just scanning a barcode

• Change quantity – click in quantity field

• Remove (F5) item from invoice. Click to remove item. Enabled only on Active sale.

• Enter/display payments against an invoice. Display and process payments on any sale/credit.

• Print Full invoice – prints a full page (non-docket) invoice, suitable for sending with mail order sales.

• Open cash drawer – opens cash drawer if operator code is verified. The user is prompted for optional text that will be printed on a docket.

• View all Active transactions. Displays transactions that have not been shipped (locked) that were started on the current workstation. A password is required to display ALL active transactions on all workstations.

• Void Sale – void current sale. Removes all items and returns them to stock. Zeroes all payments. BEWARE!!! Can cause anomalies in sales histories.

• Park current sale – any number of sales can be processed in parallel using implicit parking

• Stock lookup (F10) - do search for an item in the Inventory database. Useful if customers asks about a title. Can search Bookfind Compact CD or Bookfind Online if configured.

• Customer Lookup (F12) - search for a customer to display their history. Create new customer records. Administer special orders, maintain awards.

• Link a sale with contact – associate the current transaction with a customer in the database. Can create a new customer record if they do not already exist.

• Quantity/Price/Discount – these can be modified when the invoice is ACTIVE (fields will appear in different colour and can be modified.)

• Daily Totals – cashing up at the end of a period. Z and X totals

• All Other Trans – (Laybys, Special Orders, Gift Vouchers, Refund, Deposits, etc)
